Without creative powers mankind would still be living in caves, without any new ideas or advancement, so it is important to understand and harness this power. There is no better person to teach us how than Thomas Troward. He was a major pioneer in the New Thought movement, which bridges the gap between the inner world of thoughts and the physical universe. With command of your creative powers you can manifest your potential and offer unique things to the world that are waiting inside of you, trying to get out. It’s simply a matter of using this book and tapping into your own power. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Thomas Troward. The Mormon trek westward from Illinois to the Salt Lake Valley was an enduring accomplishment of American overland trail migration; however, their wintering at the Missouri River near present-day Omaha was a feat of faith and perseverance. Richard E. Bennett presents new facts and ideas that challenge old assumptions - particularly that life on the frontier encouraged American individualism. With an excellent command of primary sources, Bennett assesses the role of women in a pioneer society and the Mormon strategies for survival in a harsh environment as they planned their emigration, coped with internal dissension and Indian agents, and dealt with tribes of the region. This was, says Bennett, "Mormonism in the raw on the way to what it would be later." 1. Language: English. Narrator: Alan J. Gardner. Heinz Guderian: The Life and Legacy of Nazi Ger...

Actions speak louder than words. In the days to come, the Goddess of Victory will bestow her laurels only on those who are prepared to act with daring. (Heinz Guderian) Heinz Wilhelm Guderian was one of the most respected commanders and theoreticians of World War II. An innovative tank commander, he was a pioneer of German Blitzkrieg tactics and therefore a hugely influential figure in the way the war was fought. Guderian's profile was not always what might have been expected for a man of his abilities and influence, due to the shape of his career. As a German commander during the war, Guderian fought for one of the most appalling regimes in history, so while his skills are respected, it is hard to celebrate a man who led the troops of the Reich, especially to such success. Erwin Rommel, the legendary Desert Fox, managed to somewhat sidestep this stigma through his glamour and remarkable achievements spanning the length of the war, but Guderian was out of power for over a year, and when he returned, it was not to a position of battlefield command, giving him fewer opportunities than Rommel to build his reputation in the eyes of the Western media. The reasons for Guderian's time out of command are tied to the reason for his lower profile - he was a traditional German career officer rather than an ideologically driven Nazi, willing to challenge Adolf Hitler's opinions on military matters. This, together with his outspoken attitude, led to his loss of favor and dismissal from command. At the same time, being a career military man rather than a Nazi officer also meant Guderian was not as directly involved in the atrocities of the war, and he did not gain the infamy of his SS contemporaries. 1. The Great Boer War (1899-1902) - more properly the Great Anglo-Boer War - was one of the last romantic wars, pitting a sturdy, stubborn pioneer people fighting to establish the independence of their tiny nation against the British Empire at its peak of power and self-confidence. It was fought in the barren vastness of the South African veldt, and it produced in almost equal measure extraordinary feats of personal heroism, unbelievable examples of folly and stupidity, and many incidents of humor and tragedy. Byron Farwell traces the war's origins, the slow mounting of the British efforts to overthrow the Afrikaners, the bungling and bickering of the British command, the remarkable series of bloody battles that almost consistently ended in victory for the Boers over the much more numerous British forces, political developments in London and Pretoria, the sieges of Ladysmith, Mafeking and Kimberley, the concentration camps into which Boer families were herded and the exhausting guerrilla warfare of the last few years when the Boer armies were finally driven from the field.  This audiobook is a definitive history of a dramatic conflict by a master story teller and historian. Byron Farwell served as an officer in the North African and Italian campaigns in World War II and also in the Korean War. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 1964, and is the author of Queen Victoria's Little Wars. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Nigel Patterson. SQL: Enhanced Learning Strategies in SQL Progra...

SQL, pronounced ess-que-el, is a domain-specific language; this means that it is made for a certain purpose. Unlike general purpose languages like C++ or Ruby, SQL was made for a singular purpose, and to be excellent at that one purpose. It’s similar to the way HTML is designed to make web pages, and it falls into the same niche as much soft code. While alternatives to SQL like ISAM or VSAM exist, they have largely faded out of use due to SQL’s superiority. SQL is the pioneer of accessing N records with a singular command, and generally works without indexing, which means there’s no need to designate the method by which to reach a record.SQL encompasses pretty much anything you can think of doing with a database, ranging from querying data, to manipulating and defining it. Due to its scope, many people, and even professionals insist on describing SQL as a declarative language. While this is generally true, SQL also incorporates many procedural elements. In this audiobook, we don’t want to teach you the basics of SQL. The parts of SQL you should have learned at school are of no interest to us. We’ll be looking at more advanced forms of SQL, those that your boss would give you a pat on the back for, and probably consider you a programming genius for.Naturally, we’ll guide you step-by-step through this process. When it comes to learning advanced SQL, you’ll find that much of it is not simply about learning commands like "set" or "group by", but that most of it is purely related to your mindset. How well you can understand programming concept, how well you can truly learn to think like a database. So, start learning to be a master of SQL and grab this audiobook to start your journey! 1. "The story of one of the most prolific, independent, and iconoclastic inventors of this century . . . fascinating."--Scientific American Nikola Tesla (1856-1943), credited as the inspiration for radio, robots, and even radar, has been called the patron saint of modern electricity. Based on original material and previously unavailable documents, this acclaimed book is the definitive biography of the man considered by many to be the founding father of modern electrical technology. Among Tesla's creations were the channeling of alternating current, fluorescent and neon lighting, wireless telegraphy, and the giant turbines that harnessed the power of Niagara Falls. This essential biography is illustrated with sixteen pages of photographs, including the July 20, 1931, Time magazine cover for an issue celebrating the inventor's career. "A deep and comprehensive biography of a great engineer of early electrical science--likely to become the definitive biography. Highly recommended."--American Association for the Advancement of Science "Seifer's vivid, revelatory, exhaustively researched biography rescues pioneer inventor Nikola Tesla from cult status and restores him to his rightful place as a principal architect of the modern age." --Publishers Weekly Starred Review "[Wizard] brings the many complex facets of [Tesla's] personal and technical life together in to a cohesive whole....I highly recommend this biography of a great technologist." --A.A. Mullin, U.S. Army Space and Strategic Defense Command, COMPUTING REVIEWS "[Along with A Beautiful Mind] one of the five best biographies written on the brilliantly disturbed."--WALL STREET JOURNAL "Wizard is a compelling tale presenting a teeming, vivid world of science, technology, culture and human lives."--NEW SCIENTIST "Marc Seifer is an excellent writer and scholar, who has produced a wonderfully readable and illuminating biography of one of the most intriguing men of this century...mak[ing] us understand not only the man, but also the times in which he lived....[A] masterpiece."--NELSON DEMILLE "The author presents much new material...[and] bases his book on a large number of archival and primary sources....Underneath the layers of hero worship, the core of Seifer's book is a serious piece of scholarship." --Ronald Kline, SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN "Seifer has done a remarkable job going through all the Tesla manuscripts...ferret[ing] out hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles in which he traces out Tesla's public image [and] offers a reasonable reconstruction of Tesla's emotional world...Seifer has significantly advanced our understanding of Tesla."--Bernard Carlson, author of Tesla: Inventor of the Electrical Age, for ISIS "It is my opinion that Dr. Seifer leads the world as the most authoritative of all the Tesla researchers."--J.W.
